Leadership Through High-Impact Weather and Organizational Innovation
As the long-time Field Office Director and Meteorologist-in-Charge of the NWS Weather Forecast Office in Tampa Bay, Brian led teams through hurricanes, tornado outbreaks, winter storms, flooding events, and high-impact coastal storms. He is known for combining technical expertise with effective communication strategies to enable decisions through analysis and scientific understanding of weather and climate patterns.
Brian has an exceptional ability to communicate risk in plain language to non-scientists and has been a regular on several local, national and international media affiliates as a subject matter expert before, during and after high-impact weather events. Elected officials, emergency managers, media partners, and community leaders routinely rely on his briefings to guide critical decisions that protect lives, property, and infrastructure.
"The best part of my consulting business is working with an amazing and talented group of people across the weather and climate enterprise and helping people make decisions that impact their lives and interests — nothing gets better than that!"
Following his retirement from the NWS, on May 1, 2025, Brian launched the private weather consulting business, Inspire Weather, LLC, and has been active in consulting with businesses and promoting weather intelligence with media and stakeholders across the country, including:
Meteorology consultant with the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) based in Boulder, Colorado to develop an operational training curriculum for international meteorological and climatological partners.
Meteorology consultant to assess the flood risk and vulnerability at a site location in Tampa, Florida where a mixed, commercial-residential project was proposed for development; briefed elected officials during a Tampa City Council meeting for land-use change considerations.
Meteorology subject matter expert with local, national and international media partners, including several live interviews, focusing on weather- and climate-related topics ranging from hurricane and flood impacts, federal budget impacts to the public and private weather sectors, winter storms and cold air outbreaks, science education and preparedness.
Meteorology keynote speaker at public and private community events to promote weather awareness and public safety.
